Why
Badu ?

BADU aims to professionalise youth workers and youth educators and validate their competences in supporting youth mobility and non-formal learning. This is achieved through the creation of Open Badges.

WHAT ARE BADU OPEN BADGES?

A BADU Open Badge is a virtual representation of a competence you have gained through your experience as a youth worker or volunteer in a youth organisation. You can receive a badge after the successful completion of a voluntary/learning activity you have participated in or facilitated. The BADU Open Badge website allows you to verify your competences, with regards to youth work and more specifically with reference to your experience in youth mobility and non-formal learning. Open Badges in youth work also certify social competences that are not often validated through a formal certification. Each metabadge represents a competence and consists of several badges which constitute sub-competences. Every badge includes the following features: • an image file that represents the Open Badge • a definition • metadata (learning targets, performance requirements).

WHY BADU OPEN BADGES?

BADU Open Badges make it easy to: VALIDATE the competences that youth workers have acquired – knowledge, skills, attitudes. RECOGNISE the learning outcomes in youth work. DISPLAY your verified BADU Open Badges on social media and TRANSFER them between social networking profiles, youth organisations networks, websites or on your own online portfolio.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Organisations are invited to register to use BADU Open Badges, which they can award to their volunteers and youth workers. They also have the opportunity to create their own Open Badges which might better correspond to the needs of their youth workers and volunteers, and to upload these to the BADU website
