Media Decoder badge demonstrates an understanding of the power of media to shape public opinion and the ability to question and challenge given media representations.
Learning Targets
Understanding the power of the visual (e.g. regarding the representation of disasters/war/crime/violence, representation of gender and minorities)
Knowing about and understanding media codes and ethics
Knowing about campaigning
Being able to assess editorial constraints
Being able to analyse texts and images as well as the social contexts of media
Being able to assess the impact of representations on the audience and on the subject that is being portrayed
Being considerate of social, economic, technical, cultural and aesthetic implications of media development
Perceiving new technologies and media as supportive tools for young people
Participants have to successfully accomplish the following tasks before the BADU Open Badge will be issued.
Minimum standards:
Having successfully completed an entire learning activity (training course, seminar, online course, workshop etc.), a voluntary programme/internship
Self-evaluation
Assessment session with the trainer/mentor
Case Study
Conducted one workshop on the topic of the activity with youth within 2 months after the activity
Conducted critical incident analysis
Problem Solving and simulation games on the specific topic of the activity
